Hello! Long time no talk. I’m Nishiyama from M2 (Master’s 2nd year).
The International Conference on Fluid Dynamics (ICFD), hosted by the Institute of Fluid Science at Tohoku University, was held at the Sendai International Center from November 10th to 13th.
Seven members from our lab presented this year: Professor Morii, D3 Kakuda, D1 Okada, D1 Miyazaki, M2 Moriyama, M2 Nishiyama (myself), and M1 Fukaya, all gave oral presentations.
This was my first international conference, and while I was nervous, it was a few days where I re-experienced the difficulty and the joy of communicating in English (I need to study English harder!).
This time, Dr. Victor and Dr. Hao, two post-doctoral researchers working on the HYCOMBS project at CREATE in Singapore, traveled all the way to Sendai and joined us at the conference. Having the opportunity to discuss research in the same venue with people we usually only interact with online was a great source of inspiration, both for the lab and for us individually.
Furthermore, we were fortunate enough to take a commemorative photo with Dr. Victor and Dr. Hao, along with two International Distinguished Professors from the Institute of Fluid Science: Professor Mani Sarathy from KAUST and Professor Yiguang Ju from Princeton University. It was a great honor to capture this special moment—standing with four leading figures in the field of combustion—in a single picture.
Before I knew it, my master’s life is quickly entering its final stages, and the time I can spend with everyone in the lab is getting shorter. I will continue to work diligently on my research for the remaining period!
